Q: What is the NJLAD statute?

A: NJLAD stands for the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, creed, color, familial and civil union status, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, gender identity, and AIDS/HIV status, in sum. People are protected by these rights in a variety of sectors, including: housing, employment, places of public accommodation, credit and business contracts.

Q: What is EEOC NJ and what does it mean for me?

A: The EEOC, or the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, is the body that enforces Federal laws (such as the Americans with Disabilities Act) relating to discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, origin, age, disability. Specifically, employers with 15 or more employees are subject to these laws and risk EEOC violation lawsuits if they do not comply properly while hiring, promoting, or firing employees.
